I had a problem with MS Office and acrobat 8. After reinstalling acrobat I could not read pdfs from emails but had to save them first then read from a folder.. It was really frustrating but the solution for me was to make acrobat the only choice for opening pdfs. There was a choice of Firefox, acrobat and Chrome - ticking the box making it so that only acobat opens pdfs solved the problem for me.

There was a program installed called Foxit Reader which took over previewer settings in Outlook.
