If you remove One care then the Vista Builin Firewall turns on again. So you system is work correctly. You can only have one firewall working on a computer at at time, just like on anti-virus program. Tuesday, February 13, AM. Thanks for the reply. This is the answer I was looking for. Tuesday, February 13, PM. Monday, February 12, PM. One other question.

Your answer does not add up. I have this problem on one computer, but all three of my systems have Windows one care. Also Windows one care is the program that keeps complaining that the firewall is turned off. So my? It only happens when I restart, I think. Wednesday, January 16, PM. I too am having the exact same symptoms.

Is there a way to validate what firewall is active at any given time? Saturday, January 26, PM. Are you fixing this issue a patch or something in the pipe? Saturday, February 16, PM. HEY Bill! Whad d'up!! Saturday, April 5, PM. Proposed as answer by silvryn Monday, January 26, PM. Sunday, April 20, PM. Monday, January 26, PM. Tuesday, May 19, AM. Holy cow! I'm glad to see that it may be a non-issue. I kept manually going in and turning everything back on.

But now I see that OneCare is on and just Vista is turning off. I hate having a big error shield in the bottom tray. It totally sucks. I've been wanting to buy a new computer but am literally waiting until Vista is no longer the operating program that comes with the computer. Friday, July 17, PM. Amen to your message MsSchahlett! Until this week it was operating fine. Now, like you, I've been getting frequent red error shields and have been manually going in to turn Firewall and Malware protection back on.

I don't understand why these MicroSoft products seem to be in conflict. If one is supposed to predominate, why doesn't it shut down the other without generating an error shield? Saturday, July 18, PM. Sunday, July 19, PM. This same problem has been happening for about a week. I'm glad I'm not alone and I'll stop trying to "fix" it since it's more than likely one of the updates that were applied. Just like some of the other posters I bought WLOC because I hoped it would be the least likely to have random Windows compatibility issues Wednesday, July 22, PM.

I just wanted to chime in as well The same problem has been happening to me for the past few days, and it is frustrating as HE double hockey sticks to have to keep addressing the problem! I've not been that impressed with WLOC, but figured that since I hadn't had to pay much attention to it, it was doing its job.

Now I have to wonder. Does anyone also have the problem of their anti-malware software all of a sudden not working with WLOC? I'm figuring that all of these problems are related to the last update that came out late last week Thursday, July 23, PM. Running Vista, 32 bit, all latest patches to all software. I too am having both the Windows Firewall and Malware Protection turn off sometime after it shows as being on.

When I try to turn it back on, Firewall successfully turns back on, Virus protection shows as Not Compatible, and I have to additionally turn on Spyware protection. I just eradicated and reloaded OneCare, but once again Windows Security Center highlighted the same issue. Microsoft, need help here. Is your program hacked? I do not want to completely scrub my system Saturday, July 25, PM. There might be something to your comments. I too am suffering the same problems, however in my case the problem only began when i tried to load a Sygate Nortons alternative firewall program.

The loading error'd saying i didnt have full administrator rights d'uhhh??? All i want to do is tell my laptop to keep the windows firewall switched on - why is this so difficult?! I dont want to have to completely re-install my laptop just to get this facility working : Stephen. Same issue here - for about 2 weeks my One Care has been unable to open and the recurring Windows firewall always turning off by itself. I'm going to restore to an earlier date and my next computer will be a Mac.

MS should be getting better after 20 years rather then have unsolved compatability issues with their own security software. Monday, July 27, AM. Monday, July 27, PM. I am using a laptop with a hard connection and also a wireless connection, at the same time. Somehow, the wireless connection was not applying the firewall, but the hard connection was. Then I restarted the computer When it came back up, I looked for the wireless icon on the bottom right of my monitor and clicked on it.

It opened up EDIT settings for the wireless connection. The box for "Apply Firewall Setting" was not checked. Then restart the computer again. It finally stayed at the sign-on screen long enough for me to log on to my pc, but now when I sign on to my pc each day I have a warniong form my windows hme server that my pc has teh windows firwall turned off.

This happens even when I have a non-admin user signed on to the pc. I read other posts about onecare disabling windows fire wall, but I do not understand that As you can tell I am no computer expert I need help.
