Zoom h4 firmware update error

What was I missing? I had no Battery lifetime indicator at all!!! It was released August this year. So in the end it really is due to the size of the card not the date of the firmware … but even though just seconds — in a tough shooting situation every second counts. I just updated to zoom version update 2. How can I fix this? Thanks, Nic. Huge Kudos to this thread.

It answered all my questions in 1 minute or less. I will now upgrade my 4N posthaste. On twitter I discussed the pro and cons of the Zoom and the Tascam with a lot people […]. You are commenting using your WordPress.

I always dread updates but you made it as easy as it is suppose to be. Did I miss something important by upgrading from Version 1. Is there a way to re-format this and start from scratch. Any advice would be much appreciated. I am totally new to this kind of technology.

In MTR mode I cannot hear a previously recorded track whilst recording new on a different track. Can anyone please advise? Can anyone help? Ur blog is very helpful!! I hear it on the wav file when I downloaded it onto my Mac as well. Just got the Zoom H4n today and it is pretty much a bummer for my live video shoot recording session. Hi Sam I came across this site in a search to solve a problem with my H4N.

When I hold the on switch it begins to boot up… the now loading screen comes on.. I updated the software to version 1. It began when I was recording it would mysteriously switch itself off during recording. And finally not even boot up fully. Can you help at all? Thanx Tarshito. Thank you so much! Everytime I read their website I just unplug the Zoom, put it in a drawer and get to it later!

I am also using a MAC so seriously thank you! I followed the procedure exactly as it is given here to update from version 1. The device boots up but the system. Will any body help? I guess may be first I have to update to version 1.

Can anybody send me a link to the earlier version i. These are great instructions to follow to update the 1. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Does anyone know how to restore this thing to factory settings? Maybe this will help. Thanks so much for your clear instructions. Shame on them. Hire the man, Zoom.

Hi BHW. My Mac is running In the past, I shared every detail of how I mount my H4N. Here it is:. My H4N has been having an issue where it turns on and the screen is orangish-red with diagonal lines. Obviously I was hoping the firmware would solve this, but apparently now this problem is blocking even the firmware. Any idea how to beat this issue? Anyone seen this phenomenon? I have Vista 32 and never had this problem.

Please help if you have the time. Good luck! Thanks for your quick reply Sam. I downloaded the zip file. No problem. I tried this also at work with a Dell, using Windows 7.

No luck. Is there a reader that can recognize this folder. IE8 causes the computer to start opening and closing the zip file very quickly. Sounds like a compatibility issue. Help Sam, what do I do? If anyone has suggestions, please send me ideas! BIN File. Sam, you are just awesome. Thanks so much for being awesome.

I switched to a smaller size sd card, the one the unit came with, and also became very careful of how I pushed the menu button down. I am not sure if switching the sd card mattered so much, the key perhaps, is not to hold the menu button down too hard. Push it down towards the bottom of the unit, with gentle pressure, just so you feel it click only one time, then hold it in that position while you swith it on.

Thanks for the tip on pressing the button downward gently — I was definitely forcing it a bit too hard. I had the same problem. I was using a 8gb SD card, i switched for a mb and it worked. Then, put the h4 off, and start it again for your update. Initially, I had purchased a used H4 that was working spendidly until after a few weeks use for three two hour hour sessions — i use the machine to record my band practises and to archive ideas i started getting loud digital pops on the mp3s recorded, which increased in frequency till it became unbearable.

Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated. Have you tried adjusting the settings, or a different microphone? The problem you describe just sounds like a preamp slowly roasting, to me. I have occasionally used external mics on my recorder without incident. Then it works fine. I see there's a lot of really good input and info here, so I thought I'd throw this out.. I Follow the upgrade procedure, I click 'version up?

Nevermind on that timestamp question. How the [bleep] do you get the H4 to give a file the right timestamp?

I have combed the manual for every mention of the word "time" and no luck. All my files have same timestamp. I can always rename my files something with the time in it, but it's the principle of the thing. I'm new to the H4 and very impressed so far but … The font size is a problem for 'oldies'.

I can't find any suggestions on the Net so I guess I'll just have to stick with V1. But why, then, won't Zoom impliment such an update — it would surely be very easy for them to do and yet they say they have no plans to do so. I've had the H4 for 2 months now and am happy with it. I only use the built-in mics and I've never notice the pulsing sound during battery use and my mics seem to be pretty evenly matched in terms of gain so I have no complaints there.

If i want more professional sounding recordings i'll by pro equipment. Thanks so much anonymous, I spent hours trying everything to make this work! Thanks again. Hi I tried to update my Zoom H4. BIN" again. Do you know what to do to solve this problem? Take your podcast to the next level! Find out more. You can now turn off the input signal when using the USB interface mode.

When Zoom says put the update file in the root directory of your SD card, this does not mean the Sys folder. Instead, the file should not go in any folder at all. Make sure your Zoom is plugged in when performing the update. Share this: Facebook Twitter Reddit Email. About me. Brad Linder is editor of mobile tech blog Liliputing.
